Dr. Smith attended Indiana University and University of Louisville where he graduated cum laude. He graduated in 1992 from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and trained at the University Hospitals completing his urological surgery training in 1997. He joined Kentucky Urology Associates out of residency with a clinical appointment at the University of Louisville. Dr. Smith has had extensive post-graduate training in laparoscopic urology and was the first to perform retroperitoneal laparoscopic kidney and adrenal surgery and prostatectomy in greater Louisville. He has performed 250 laparoscopic prostatectomies since 2003. He has performed bench and clinical research on neurogenic bladder.

He is currently a clinical professor of Urologic Surgery at the University of Louisville and remains active in teaching students and residents. He is a member of numerous local, regional and national societies including the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Smith has considerable experience in office treatments for BPH.
